Internet Of Things (IoT)

Posted on by

Internet of Things (IoT) is network of physical objects or things that are embedded with sensors that connect and communicate with other devices over Internet without human intervention. Things can be any physical object like car, fridge, pen, thermostat, HVAC. These physical objects have software and hardware and capable of processing data. These physical objects are smart objects which can be connected over Internet and managed from remote.

Components of IoT

Sensor is the component embedded in the physical devices and collects the data about it.

IoT Device is the device that is connected to the Internet and managed or monitored.

IoT Gateway is gateway device that connects the IoT devices to the end users and cloud.

Layers of IoT

Application Layer is the layer that hold applications which connect to the IoT devices.

Middleware Layer is the layer that sits between the application and the IoT devices that performs device management and data management.

Internet Layer is the layer that provides connectivity between the Application, end users and IoT devices.

Access Layer is the layer that provides protocol translation between IoT devices and the Application.

Edge Layer is the layer that comprises the IoT devices.
